I am an autistic runner. Many running clubs and races aren’t accessible to people like me.
Overstimulating, oversubscribed, and dominated by overachieving PR chasers—this version of running isn’t for everyone. Races are often big, loud, high-pressure events with drums, air horns, and Reach
by S Club on repeat.
I want access to be a bigger part of run club and race event decision making. On June 1, 2025, I am going to run my first half marathon with no one watching. No official start line, no official route, no cutoff time, no medal—a small attempt to make as much noise as possible in the running community about access.
Leading up to my big race day, I am asking other neurodivergent and/or disabled runners (and those interested in giving running a go) to share their thoughts and feelings with me—creating a picture of people’s experiences of run clubs and races and/or the barriers that prevent them from participating.
I’ll also be collecting and celebrating club and races who do brilliant things to make running more accessible.
The data from this campaign will be collated and used to create an access action list for the running community to improve their offer and hopefully make the world of running a little bit easier for us all to engage with.
